If you are ever in Omaha Nebraska and find yourself hitching, perhaps you will be picked up by lead singer, Kacynna Tompsett of indie pop six-piece Thunder Power, and just maybe you will be driven to a fantasy locale such as Winston’s Wonderland where you will forget your woes and engage in acts like playing crows nest basketball on a pirate ship and compete in tricycle races with the rest of her band… until of course reality comes crashing in when she decides to drop you off later where you started your thumbing. Damn, that was a long sentence.
This is part of the scenario painted in Thunder Power’s recent video for “Take a Hike”, a beautiful song full of languid yet whimsical vocals that bring to mind Camera Obscura as a musical reference point, tempered by a bouncy beat, and layered with the promise of the unknown. Its an earlier submission to Insomnia Radio that I overlooked somehow but definitely wanted to feature and give you all a healthy dose of.
Take a Hike can be found on the EP “Love Yourself”, which is available on Slumber Party Records through a variety of digital outlets, such as e-music, amazon, interpunk and itunes. To see the video directed by Lindsay Trapnell in its full splendor, head on over to Vimeo and take a gander.
