Featured on episode 5 of Insomnia Radio Australia, Tamarama (Tam-a-ram-a) is both the name of a Sydney beach and a Sydney two piece surf rock/pop band. Having grown up around the beach in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, the band released their debut EP in 2008 then set off touring the east coast of Australia as well as touring California. Their beach upbringing and their various travels have influenced their music greatly. Fresh from recording a full length album in 2010 in New York City, the band are in the middle of a US tour, with remaining shows primarily on the West Coast including California, Oregon, Washington, Colorado & Nevada.
Tamarama’s music is about their experiences by the ocean, finding then losing love and still having hope. Despite their travels, both band members are still proud Australians and are a band for you to watch out for in 2010.
Tamarama (the beach) is also worth a mention here. The beach and the suburb of Tamarama is known by locals as Glamarama (or Glamourama) due to the uber-attractive visitors to the beaches and cafes in the area. It is in the middle of the coastal walking track that links Bondi & Bronte beaches in the eastern suburbs of Sydney. Tamarama (the beach) is definitely a good alternative to the world famous Bondi beach that is often very crowded with tourists and locals alike.
